Wayne Rooney dropped by Man Utd and fined £200k
Wayne Rooney was axed by Man United and fined £200,000 – for a night out with his wife Coleen. He is said to be livid after Sir Alex Ferguson decided he was not fit enough to train and he axed Rooney, 26 – along with team-mates Darron Gibson and Jonny Evans – for Saturday’s shock 3-2 home defeat by Blackburn Rovers. All three players were fined a week’s wages. Gibson and Evans and their partners had joined Rooney and Coleen for dinner in Manchester on Boxing Day – five days before the match – to toast United’s 5-0 win over Wigan earlier that day.

But next morning the players got the famous Fergie “hairdryer” treatment after apparently talking about what a good time they had. Rooney was then told on Friday night that he would be dropped for the Rovers game, a major shock given the club’s current injury crisis.

Insiders say the temperamental star feels his six-figure fine is massively unfair. And he is said to be angry at Ferguson’s “complete over-reaction” to what was just an innocuous meal out with pals.
Rooney is said to have been aggrieved at being disciplined, feeling he was in a fit state to train. But United sources claim there is no ongoing rift between Ferguson and Rooney.
