Afghanistan secured their passage to Australia and New Zealand in 2015 by beating Kenya comprehensively for the second time in succession in Sharjah, sealing their maiden World Cup qualification. They finished second in the World Cricket League Championship - nine wins in 14 matches - and joined Ireland as the second Associate team in the 2015 World Cup, while the remaining two spots for Associates will be decided by a qualifying tournament in New Zealand in 2014.
Afghanistan had to beat Kenya to prevent UAE from gaining qualification and their bowlers delivered once again. Having dismissed Kenya for 89 on October 2, Afghanistan skittled them for 93 today, ensuring their batsmen had a easy target to achieve their World Cup goal. They did it in 20.5 overs to reach their third global tournament, having appeared in the World Twenty20s in 2010 and 2012.
Before their wickets began to tumble, however, Kenya had been stifled: their run rate was less than one during the first 15 overs. Karim Sadiq provided Afghanistan their first wicket, trapping Irfan Karim lbw in the sixth over for 3 off 27 balls. The second came one over later, with Mohammd Nabi bowling Gurdeep Singh for 1 off 23 deliveries.
Morris Ouma had just struck the innings' first boundary, off the last ball of the 16th over, when he lost his partner Collins Obuya the next ball. Their partnership of 9 had taken seven overs, leaving the innings with no momentum. Kenya then had their largest stand - 53 between Ouma and Rakep Patel for the fourth wicket - but after that was broken when Patel missed a cut offHamza Kotak, there was no more resistance.

Afghanistan Cricket fans Celebrating

Ouma followed for 39 an over later - run out by Samiullah Shenwari - and Hotak and Hamid Hassan made short work of the lower order. Afghanistan took seven wickets for 24 to dismiss Kenya in 43.3 overs. It was Kenya's third sub-100 score against Afghanistan in five days; they had been routed for 56 in the Twenty20 on September 30.
Needing only 94 to join cricket's elite at the World Cup, Afghanistan's chase began poorly when they lost the opener Mohammad Shahzad for 1 in the second over. They scored slowly too, but their bowlers had given them the luxury of being able to do so while seeing off the new ball. By the time the umpires took the players off for lunch, Nawroz Mangal and Asghar Stanikzai had taken the team to 24 for 1 in nine overs.

Mangal found the long-off boundary in the first over after the resumption, which went for nine runs to give Afghanistan impetus. However, they were jolted severely in the 11th, Shem Ngoche bowling Stanikzai with the first ball and trapping Mangal lbw with the last to reduce Afghanistan to 34 for 3.
Any worries of a collapse, however, were allayed by Mohammad Nabi and Hashmatullah Shaidi, who shared a 62-run stand for the fourth wicket to kill the contest. Nabi was aggressive, scoring at nearly a run a ball and accelerated towards the finish with two huge sixes. He sealed theWorld Cup berth with a smash to the midwicket boundary.
They will join Pool A at the World Cup along with Australia, Bangladesh, England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and another qualifier. Afghanistan's progress means that Netherlands, UAE, Scotland, Kenya, Namibia, Canada, Uganda, Hong Kong, Nepal and Papua New Guinea will have to compete for the last two Associate berths.

Rajasthan Royals skipper and Mr dependable of Indian Cricket Team Rahul Dravid has hinted at retiring from the Indian Premier League (IPL) after this season.
After beating the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL Eliminator in Delhi at the Feroz Shah Kotla on Wednesday, Dravid told reporters that he is aware that they "need to start looking ahead for younger players". With the win, the Jaipur-based team also qualified for the Champions Leagueto be held in India from September 17 to October 6.
Rahul Dravid
Asked whether he will play in the Champions League, Dravid said: "I do not know. I have never envisaged that it would be my last campaign and there is no more cricket after this. WithChampions League coming up, I really don't know."
"Let me finish this tournament and then I will sit down with the franchise to talk about my future and what they want to do. I am also mindful of the fact that we need to start looking ahead for younger players."
The 40-year-old joined the Royals from Royal Challengers Bangalore last year. The Dravid-led side play Mumbai Indians on Friday in Qualifier 2 for a place in the final versus the ChennaiSuper Kings.

As emotional as anyone has ever seen him, Ricky Ponting lost his customary composure when telling team-mates of his decision to retire from international cricket on the eve of the third Test against South Africa in Perth.

For so long the stony-faced embodiment of Australian cricket, Ponting and other members of the squad wept as they came to terms with the fact a Test career that began at the WACA ground in 1995 would end at the same ground 17 years later. "I tried to tell them a lot, but I didn't get much out," Ponting said. "As I said to the boys this morning, they've never seen me emotional, but I was this morning."

Ricky Ponting
If the decision drew a previously unseen well of feeling from within Ponting, its reasons were coldly logical and team-oriented. After failing twice with the bat in Adelaide and thrice in this series, having given himself the best possible lead-in via domestic cricket Ponting concluded that he was no longer good enough to perform at the level he preferred. For so long Ponting's watchword had been consistency - now he spoke ruefully of "consistent failure".

Other considerations included choosing the best circumstances in which to allow his successor in the batting order to get started, a question Ponting had also pondered when handing over the captaincy to Clarke in 2011. As befitted a man whose proudest career achievement is to have played in more Test wins than any other cricketer, Ponting was also keen for the announcement to inspire, not overshadow, Australia's tilt at the world No. 1 ranking in this match.

"It's a decision I thought long and hard about, put in long consideration about the decision, at the end of the day it was about my results and my output in this series so far," Ponting said. "It hasn't been to the level required for batsmen and players in the Australian team. My level of performance hasn't been good enough.

"I want to be a consistent performer, and if you look back over the last 12 or 18 months I haven't been able to perform consistently. I've had moments of really good stuff, and prolonged moments of cricket that's been below my expectations and below a par level for me, so there hasn't been one dismissal or one moment, it's just been in my own eyes reasonably consistent failure. That's why I believe the time is right now to be making this decision."

Following a poor start to the Test series with low scores in Brisbane and Adelaide, Ponting said he was troubled by the "tentative" manner of his dismissals. In Adelaide he was bowled twice in the same match for only the second time in a career that began in 1995.

That double was the catalyst for a typically frank interview with his first Test captain Mark Taylor on Channel Nine on the fourth morning in Adelaide, in which Ponting said he was soon to be discussing his future with the selectors. Discussions about retirement commenced during the Test, though Ponting said he always retained the support of the selectors, and made the call himself.

"I believe so, there's been all sorts of things in the papers the last couple of days and I know certainly with my captain and my coach I couldn't have had any more support from those guys," Ponting said. "They've been the ones who've been most verbal about their support.

"This is not a decision that's been made by the selectors, this a decision that's been made by me, and I'd like to thank all those guys for the support they've given me over the last 12 months. There were probably moments when they thought long and hard about ending my career and I'm glad I've got the opportunity to finish this way and on my terms."

The effect of Ponting's retirement was writ large across the red eyes of the captain, Michael Clarke. In summing up the few days leading up to the announcement, Clarke became so teary that he recalled the welling up of emotion that accompanied Kim Hughes' exit as captain in 1984. While the reasons were entirely different, the feeling was equally strong - Clarke could not answer another question about his team-mate, friend and predecessor as captain.

"I didn't have a feeling it was coming," Clarke said. "Ricky spoke to me after the Adelaide Test match and made his decision I guess over the last few days. The boys are obviously hurting at the moment. He's been an amazing player for a long time. [Deep breath and starts to tear up]… and that'll do me for today. Sorry, I can't answer that."

Ponting will play out the domestic season for Tasmania and the Hobart Hurricanes in the BBL. He does not yet know what will be ahead of him beyond the summer, but gestured towards his wife Rianna and children when queried about what the future held.

"I've got a few months of cricket yet, which I am really looking forward to. I really enjoyed the start of this season playing cricket with Tasmania and back with some of my mates - really I place I haven't spent a lot of time for near on the last 20 years. So I'll enjoy that for what it is, but this is my new team here," Ponting said, pointing to his family.

As for the question of his contribution to cricket, Ponting had a simple and affecting answer. While delivering it he came close to tears again, those his team-mates had shared a few hours before.

"I know I've given cricket my all," Ponting said. "It's been life for 20 years. Not much more I can give."

Sachin Tendulkar admits he has been considering his retirement date lately and acknowledges the end of his extraordinary cricket career is not far away.
The Indian cricket star and god of fans has suggested he may not play beyond the home Test series against England later this year.
'I'm 39 and I don't I have plenty of cricket left in me,' Tendulkar told Times Now news channel.
'But it depends on my frame of mind and my physical ability to deliver. When I feel that I am not delivering what is needed, then I will relook at the scheme of things. I'm 39 and no one expects me to go on and on.'
Sachin Thinking of retirement

Tendulkar, who holds many major batting records including most runs and most centuries in both tests and limited-overs internationals, said it was natural to think of retirement.'It is not abnormal for me to think of it. At that moment, I will go by what my heart says. At this moment, my heart says I am okay. But I will have to look at it series by series,' Tendulkar said.
Tendulkar, who has restricted his participation in one-dayers over the past few years and does not play Twenty20 internationals, said finally quitting all international cricket was going to be difficult.
'It's... been my life. All of a sudden there comes a moment when I say I can't go on,' he said. 'I don't know what is in store. If I knew, I would not have to wait 22 years to lift the World Cup. Perhaps, I would have done it the first time in Australia in 1992.'
Sachin with his Team mates after winning world Cup

A World Cup title had eluded Tendulkar until India finally clinched it in his home town of Mumbai last year.

Speculation about Tendulkar's future plans was heightened after senior batsmen Rahul Dravid and V.V.S. Laxman announced their retirements this year, and especially after he struggled during a two-test home series against New Zealand in August and September.
'If this three-wicket ordeal had happened when I was 25, no one would have questioned it. Incidentally, it happened when I am 39, so questions were raised. This is natural,' Tendulkar said.

'I need not take a call right now. When I play in November (against England), I will reassess things. I'm still the best judge of what happens to my mind and body. When I feel it is time, I will take a call.'

Earlier this year, Tendulkar became the first batsman to complete a century of international centuries.

He has scored 51 centuries in Tests and 49 in one-day internationals - accumulating 15,533 runs in Tests, and 18,426 in one-day internationals.

Pakistan didn't know until late on Tuesday night whether they'd have to keep their hotel reservations in Colombo for a few more days. But when South Africa's Robin Peterson gloved a ball for a single to take the score to 122 against India, a roar went around the Premadasa. It sounded as though Sri Lanka were playing, but the noise was from a legion of Pakistan fans who were celebrating their team's progress to the semi-finals on net run rate, at India's expense. There wasn't much separating the two sides, but Pakistan were better placed because they got their tactics right and won big against Australia earlier in the evening.

Spin has been Pakistan's strength in this tournament and their captain Mohammad Hafeez used his resources astutely. If that meant giving a rookie spinner the new ball and making the most experienced fast bowler wait till the 18th over, then so be it. The plan was to suffocate the Australians with turn on a sluggish pitch and it worked to such an extent that even Shane Watson had a rare, bad outing. The fielders made Australia's qualifying target of 112 seem distant. As a result, Pakistan play their fourth World Twenty20 semi-final tomorrow, but unlike on Tuesday, they will not have the lion's share of the support.

Sri Lanka are familiar opponents for Pakistan. The hosts were the more dominant side when Pakistan visited in June-July. Sri Lanka looked a more settled side in the Super Eights, making heavy weather of the chase against New Zealand (which culminated in a Super Over victory) and trouncing West Indies and England. The return of Ajantha Mendis has given their spin attack more bite and the seamers, Lasith Malinga and Nuwan Kulasekara don't offer respite.
It's ironic though that the semi-final is Sri Lanka's first game in Colombo during this World Twenty20. They love playing at the Premadasa and the pitch - not as quick as the ones Pakistan played on in June - should suit their spinners. Sri Lanka haven't had a world title since 1996. They are two games away from breaking the drought, at home.
After being victorious to UAE by 4 wickets now Nepal will face with Kuwait on Saturday October 6 at Al dhaid. Nepal will be more confident after their Sucesful run chase against UAE where as Kuwait will play its first match in the tournament against Hongkong . Ballack, who left Bayer Leverkusen at the end of last season, confirmed the news via a statement from his lawyer. In a glittering career, Ballack started out at Chemnitzer FC before playing for Kaiserslautern, Bayer Leverkusen, Bayern Munich, and Chelsea, before once again returning to Leverkusen for two seasons to end his playing days.

"At 36 years old I can look back on a long and wonderful time in professional football, which I could never have dreamed of as a child," Ballack said.

"It was a privilege to work with world class coaches and fantastic players. Now I am looking forward to a new chapter in my life."

In four seasons with Chelsea following his arrival at Stamford Bridge on a free transfer from Bayern Munich prior to the 2006 World Cup, Ballack won one Premier League title, three FA Cups and one League Cup.

He made 167 appearances for the West London club, scoring 26 times, but suffered disappointment in 2007-08 when Chelsea lost in the finals of the Champions League and League Cup, as well as finishing second in the league.

Ballack won his first Bundesliga title in 1998 when, following a move from Chemnitz FC, he helped Kaiserslautern become the first promoted side to win the league in their first season back in the top flight.
